List of Latest Schemes on Women's Empowerment 2023: Detail Description

1. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao
  • Launched in: This scheme was launched in January 2015.

  • Implemented by: Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Ministry of Human Resource Development

  • Aim: Under this scheme, the ministry aims to address the declining child sex ratio and sex-selective abortion.

  • Current Scenario: According to the Census 2011, there are 918 girls for every 1,000 boys.

2. Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojna
  • Launched in: January 2017

  • Ratio of contribution: 60(Centre) : 40 (State)

  • Implemented by: Ministry of Women and Child Development

  • Benefits:

    • Under this scheme, a beneficiary received a cash benefit of Rs. 5,000 in three installments. But she must fulfill the following conditions:

    • Early registration of pregnancy

    • Ante-natal check-up

    • Birth registration of a child and completion of the vaccination first cycle for the family's first living child.

3. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
  • Launched in: 2016

  • Implemented by: Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas

  • Aim: To provide liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) connections to poor households

  • This scheme also aims to empower women and protect their health

4. Nari Shakti Puraskar
  • Launched in: 2016

  • Aim: To motivate women, who are working effortlessly in various fields of work

  • This award is sponsored by the Ministry of Women and Child Department.

  • This award is conferred on 8th March, every year, which is observed as International Women's Day.

  • Prize Money: ₹ 2 lakh

  • The award is conferred in six institutional categories, which are named after the six famous women in Indian history.

5. Kalaignar Women’s Rights Fund Scheme
  • Launched in: 2023

  • Launched by: Tamil Nadu Government

  • This scheme was launched on September 23, 2023, to mark the birth anniversary of Dravidian icon C N Annadurai, who was a former chief minister of Tamil Nadu, popularly known as 'Kalaignar'.

  • This government scheme aims to uplift the women of the state.

  • Under this scheme, the state government aims to provide monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 to eligible beneficiaries women, across the state.

6. Lakhpati Didi
  • Launched in: 2023

  • Launched by: Central Government

  • Under this scheme, the government aims to empower two crore women, dubbed as Lakhpati Didi, so that they can earn over Rs 1 lakh per year.

  • Features:

    • The government will provide drones to women SHGs for agricultural activities.

    • They will be trained in skills like LED bulb making, plumbing, and many more.

7. One Stop Centre
  • Launched by: Centre government

  • Implemented Ministry:  Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD)

  • Sub scheme of: National Mission for Empowerment of Women

  • Under this initiative, the government aims to make women feel safe, for this vision, the government provides integrated support and assistance across the nation, under one roof.

  • Funded by: Nirbhaya Fund

  • Sponsored by: 100% sponsored by the central government to the state governments /Union Territories (UTs) administrations

  • Audit: It is done as per the Comptroller & Auditor General of India

8. Working Women Hostels scheme

  • Launched by: Centre government

  • Implemented Ministry:  Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD)

  • Aim: To provide a safe place for women, who are working away from their place of residence

  • Provisions: Installation of CCTV Cameras in Working Women's Hostels, Security guards, etc.

9. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana
  • Introduced in: 2016

  • It is a central government scheme.

  • Beneficiary: Girl Child

  • It is a government savings scheme, which was created to provide financial benefits to girl children.

  • Under this scheme, the government also provides tax benefits.

  • Sukanya Samriddhi Account: Eligibility

    • Beneficiary: Girl Child

    • Opened by: A parent or legal guardian of the girl child

    • Note: A parent or legal guardian of the girl child can not open multiple accounts for one girl child, they can open only one account for one girl child.

    • Limit to open an account: The limit to open an SSY account is two per family

  • Sukanya Samriddhi Account: Interest Rate

    • Investment Amount: Rs.250 (Minimum) up to Rs.1.5 lakh p.a.(Maximum)

    • Maturity Amount: It depends on the invested amount

    • Maturity Period: 21 years

10. Gruha Lakshmi Scheme
  • Launched in: 2023

  • Launched by: Telangana Government

  • Aim: Under this scheme, the state government aims to provide financial assistance to women of SC, ST, and BC communities, so that they can build or improve their homes

11. Ladli Behna Yojana
  • Launched in: 2023

  • Launched by: Madhya Pradesh Government

  • Aim: Under this scheme, the state government aims to provide financial assistance to women by providing Rs 1,000 to their bank accounts on the 10th of each month.

12. Sashakt Mahila Rin Yojana
  • Launched in: 2023

  • Launched by: Himachal Pradesh government

  • Aim: To provide help to women to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams and engage them in livelihood activities

  • Under this scheme, beneficiaries will get a credit facility of Rs.21,000, Rs.51,000, and Rs.1,01,000 at an interest rate of 8.51%, which is relatively low compared to others.

13. Mahila Samman Savings Certificate Scheme
  • Launched in: Union Budget 2023-24

  • Launched by: Central government

  • Implemented ministry: Ministry of Finance

  • Aim: The government aims to empower women's investments.

  • Implementing Body: Banks and Post Office

  • Eligibility criteria: A woman can open an account for herself or by the guardian on behalf of a minor girl
