On January 25, 1950, the Election Commission of India (ECI) was established.
It is an autonomous constitutional body, which is responsible for administering Union and State election processes in India.
To mark this day, the government of India designated January 25 as National Voter's Day in 2011.
This decision was made on the 61st anniversary of the Election Commission's establishment.

President of India, Droupadi Murmu is the Chief Guest at the national function, which is being organized in New Delhi by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge), Arjun Ram Meghwal attended the function as Guest of Honour.
Heads and representatives of Election Management bodies viz. Maldives, the Philippines, Russia, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan also graced the event.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has presented the first copy of the ECI Publication ‘ECI Initiatives for General Elections 2024’ to the Hon’ble President, Drupudi Murmu.
It provides a comprehensive overview of the initiatives undertaken by each division of the ECI to ensure free, fair, inclusive, accessible, and participatory conduct of elections.
A short voter awareness film named ‘My Vote My Duty’ was also released, which was produced by ECI in association with renowned filmmaker Raj Kumar Hirani.

During the event, the President of India will present the Best Electoral Practices Awards for the year 2023.
It will be presented to State and District level officers for their outstanding performance in the conduct of elections during 2023 in different spheres such as IT initiatives, Security Management, Election Management, Accessible Election, Electoral Roll, and contribution in the field of voter awareness and outreach.
