1. Bharat Coking Coal Ltd Launches 5.0 MTPA Madhuband Washery Operations

• Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), under the Ministry of Coal has announced the initiation of commercial operations at the state-of-the-art 5.0 MTPA Madhuband Washery.
• The washery started commercial operations on 29th November 2023 in the presence and guidance of Samiran Dutta, CMD, BCCL.
• The washery was formally inaugurated by Union Minister of Coal, Mines, and Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi.

2. RBI fines Bank of America, N.A., HDFC Bank

In the news:

• The Reserve Bank on Thursday has imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 each on Bank of America, N.A. And HDFC Bank Ltd for violation of certain norms.
• The penalty on Bank of America, N.A. Has been imposed for violation of Reserve Bank of India's instructions on reporting requirements under Liberalised Remittance Scheme of FEMA 1999.
• The central bank said penalty on HDFC Bank is for violation of directions on acceptance of deposits from non-residents.
• Besides, penalties have been imposed on five cooperative banks for non-compliance with various regulatory norms.

9. NLCIL Signs MoU with TNSDC & NTTF for Skill Development Training Programme for Unemployed Youth

• NLC India Limited, a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal has entered into a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Chennai with Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC), the  Nodal Agency of Government of Tamil Nadu for skill development and Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF), Bengaluru, a pioneer institution on providing skill training to unemployed youth, to meet the present industry demands.
• This collaboration of NLCIL, TNSDC & NTTF will impart job-oriented skill development training for 540 wards of project-affected families (PAFs’) of NLCIL’s operating areas in Neyveli.
• NLCIL has committed to spending Rs1.12 lakh per candidate for this free residential program under its budget for Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R).
• This program will help the candidates to become technically trained and get employment opportunities in premier companies.

10. India's GDP increases to 7.6% in July-September 2023

• India retained the tag of the world's fastest-growing major economy, with its GDP expanding by a faster-than-expected rate of 7.6% in the July-September 2023 quarter on booster shots from government spending and manufacturing.
