G20 with India being its president in 2022 was a proud moment for India as this gave it a powerful role at least for a year where it was capable of setting an imprint on the global economy as well as the climate change forums. The declaration reasserted India’s support for multilateralism and collective work for a more just world economic order.
On one of the main topics of the summit it is worth mentioning climate change which India has been vocal about in the international level. India outlined principles for equality in climate change, asking developed countries to honour their pledge of providing finances for the mitigation against climate change in the developing countries. The country called for more funding and technology development to ensure that victim countries could be helped to overcome the impact of climate change and adapt to new climate change issues. India was unambiguous on where it stood – the rich countries had to do more because they contributed to the problem more due to their high GDP.
Two of such issues were digital transformation and digitalisation. India was the first to demonstrate how a digital public infrastructure could be an exemplar of growth that was inclusive. The new initiatives namely the UPI and the Digital India were presented to illustrate the fact that our country has positively impacted millions of Indian citizens providing them financial and digital solutions with particular emphasis to the rural citizens. India also underlined the point that if levers were well pulled, digitalization could be helpful in bringing the economies back on track and generating employment opportunities, especially in the context of post COVID-19 world.
Gandhi International Relations for the Indian subcontinent and the world, during the G20 tenure, India focused on further enhancing bilateral and multilateral relations with developed as well as the developing country. Some of the issues that were under discussion during the summit include issues such as Unleveled international trade reforms, requirements for firming up global supply chain, and methods of handling disruptions caused by technological disruptions inclusive of artificial intelligence and Blockchain Technologies. These were in accord with Indian political interests on these matters which was carried forward with a vision to modernize the country with advanced technologies, social and economic progress and international cooperation.
India also actively participated in framing forums to talk about world security such as cyber security and other things like peace keeping. The summit provided an opportunity to the people of India to reiterate their intention of playing their part in making the world stable and peaceful by forming alliances with both the developed and the developing world.
