The Income Tax Department has launched PAN 2.0 – a new edition of the Permanent Account Number system of India. It contains efforts to simplify the tax process, reduce the overlaps as well as consider factors of clear working. This includes enhancement in the traditional QR code, linking with Aadhaar, and a single window for PAN/TAN. As one of the largest recipients in the IT modernization programme with ₹1, 435 crore allocated for this project, the efficiency of the country’s tax collection will be severely boosted. The Income Tax department had started PAN 2.0, which is a progressive concept aimed at regenerating tax processes, effectiveness, and clarity overall in the tax system in India. With this new system, India is implementing state-of-the-art features, meant to solve some of the difficulties that has characterized compliance with the IT Act while corroborating the drive toward a digital economy.
Enhanced QR Codes: PAN 2.0 incorporates enhanced QR code on: New PAN card – it has pre-printed QR code Existing PAN card – the card holder can get a new QR code For quick access to validated data base.
Integration with Aadhaar: To make the identity verification tighter the PAN card is now perfectly synchronized with Aadhaar making it a more standardized method.
Unified Portal for PAN/TAN Services: The new system identifies the PAN, TAN, and TIN services as one unified window, which eliminates interaction confrontations along with mistakes.
Elimination of Duplicate PANs: Reporting errors instead strive to eliminate the duplication of the generation of multiple PANs to a single person thus maintaining record integrity.
In this regard, the Union Cabinet has sanctioned ₹1,435 crore for overhauling the IT infrastructure required to underpin PAN 2.0. It is a new venture that is an obvious answer to the need of the industry for a simple, digital identification and taxation compliance solution.
Streamlined Tax Compliance: As on today, it has issued more than 73 crore PAN, out of which 98% PANs are linked with individuals, and this system helps in filing taxes, challan, and returns easily.
Improved Business Efficiency: PAN 2.0 will also function as an identifying code both nationally as well as TAN and TIN codes will be incorporated into PAN. This reduces temporal overlapping of tasks and makes the general exercise of tax administration more efficient.
Transparency and Security: Adoption of the PAN Data Vault System provides protection of the tax payer information, information that is commonly utilized by the banks, insurance firms and governmental organizations.
The provisions made in PAN 2.0 will help to increase a level of compliance with taxes in India besides strengthening the relationship of confidence between the taxpayers and the government.
