Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Launches LIC’s Bima Sakhi Yojana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana to empower rural women by providing financial independence and creating employment opportunities as LIC agents, known as Bima Sakhis. The scheme aims to enhance financial inclusion and social security while contributing to the government's broader "Insurance for All" campaign. Additionally, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Maharana Pratap University of Horticulture in Haryana, focusing on advancing horticulture education and research.

• Shri Narendra Modi Prime Minister of India inaugurated LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana and Also laid the foundation stone for the Maharana Pratap University of Horticulture.

• The LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana is a new launched scheme to empower women in the rural India. The strategy aims to empower rural women by educating them as Bima Sakhis and offering insurance services that also make them earn an income. Besides empowering the women, it will be contributing towards the achievement of the concept of financial inclusion broadly.

• Besides, establishment of Maharana Pratap University of Horticulture will play a decisive role in developing the standard of horticulture education and research in the region. University advanced training and research will center on horticulture benefiting farmers and boosting the agricultural sector. This and the above shows that both initiatives are in harmony with the government, and its goals towards the development of the rural sector, advancement of women and a growth in the agricultural sector.

Launch of Bima Sakhi Yojana:

• Union Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bima Sakhi Yojana of Life Insurance Corporation in Panipat Haryana as a part of financial independence for women and employment.

• The scheme will create employment opportunities for 2 lakh women owning Insurance agents known as Bima sakhis.

Importance of Women's Empowerment:

• The PM stressed the importance of the development of India and referred to the eradication of barriers and provision of opportunities to women as being the key to advancing the nation.

• He pointed out that the government scheme of Bima Sakhi Yojana is among several measures that the government has taken to empower women and ensure they embrace improved sources of livelihood and income.

Connection with Haryana:

• The PM thanked Haryana for the success and efforts it has made for women’s welfare and also appreciated the safety Slogan ‘Ek hain to safe hain’ in the state.

• The new scheme the Bima Sakhi Yojana was launched in a year after the inauguration of the highly successful Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign that was started from Panipat.

Government Initiatives for Women:

• In his speech, Shri Modi underlined the efforts of the government in opening opportunities for women across different domains; armed forces, police, corporate sectors and so on.

• He also spoke about how 30 crore women's bank accounts were opened through Jan Dhan Yojana and, through it, subsidies and direct benefits reach women.

Role of Bima Sakhis in Social Security:

• The PM explained that the Bima Sakhi would help in the ‘Insurance for All’ campaign in India to provide social security and eradicate poverty.

• It will also generate income avenues for women; as LIC agents, they could earn up to ₹1.75 lakh per annum.

Other Initiatives for Women Empowerment:

• The PM spoke of many schemes like Bank Sakhi, Krishi Sakhi, Pashu Sakhi, and Lakhpati Didi etc which have empowered rural women across India in their respective fields.

• He elaborated on the functioning of Self Help Groups SHGs which had commenced to revolutionize the rural economy through linking with over 100 million women.

Foundation Stone of Maharana Pratap Horticultural University:

• PM also inaugurated the Maharana Pratap Horticultural University which is located in Karnal, Haryana and will prove to be beneficial in improving horticulture education and research.

• The university will be set up with a budget of ₹ 700 crore and aims at providing graduate and post-graduate degrees in horticulture.

Commitment to a Developed India by 2047:

• The Prime Minister briefly stressed the government’s goal of making India a developed country by the time of the country’s seventy years of independence in 2047 while particularly focusing on the role and significance of women in the development process with special reference to the Bima Sakhi.

Additional Government Efforts:

• He also spoke about various schemes of the government for farmers of Haryana which included over ₹1.25 lakh crore MSP for farmers and ₹800 crore to farmers affected by drought.
