The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has designed the RRB NTPC Exam Pattern 2024 for those who aim to fill the non-technical popular categories. Knowing the exam pattern is an important step in efficiently preparing for recruitment. The selection process consists of multiple stages: an initial exam (CBT 1), followed by a second-level test (CBT 2), and then, based on the applied category, further Typing Skill Test or Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT).

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern 2024

The Pattern of RRB NTPC has been changed recently especially in CBT 2, which remains the same for graduate and undergraduate positions. Earlier, this stage was different for different posts, but now test level and pattern vary with the position level while the second-stage exam has a uniformity.

The entire exam process includes CBT 1, CBT 2, CBAT (for roles like Traffic Assistant and Station Master), Typing Skill Test (for clerical and typing-based positions), document verification, and a medical examination. CBT 1 is worth 100 marks, and CBT 2 carries 120 marks, with a 90-minute duration (extended to 120 minutes for PwBD candidates using scribes). For every wrong answer in the CBT, it deducts 1/3 of the mark; however, CBAT does not have negative marking. The following gives a detailed RRB NTPC Exam pattern for every stage.

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern for CBT 1

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern 2024 for CBT 1: The exam consists of 100 MCQs on General Awareness, Mathematics, and General Intelligence & Reasoning. The exam is qualifying and will have a duration of 90 minutes (120 minutes for PwBD candidates). Questions are based on Class 10, 12, and graduation levels.

Negative marking does exist, as 1/3 of the marks is deducted for wrong answers. Candidates are shortlisted for CBT 2 on the basis of their normalized scores. The number of shortlisted candidates will be 20 times the vacancies.

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern for CBT 2

There will be a total of 120 questions in three sections: General Awareness, Mathematics, and General Intelligence and Reasoning. It is conducted in two stages for CBT- Main 90 minutes: For candidates with disabilities (PwBD) - 120 minutes. Candidates of CBT 2 qualifying for exercising the reservation benefits under OBC(NCL), SC, ST, EWS, PwBD, and ExSM are to be considered against these categories at all stages of the selection process. For wrong answer marks will be deducted which would be 1/3 of the mark intended for the correct answer. Depending upon the nature of the posts applied for, questions shall vary in terms of difficulty level. Marks will be normalized at every stage to eliminate the element of inequality.

This structure of the RRB NTPC Pattern for CBT 2 needs to be understood by the students while preparing for the exam. Besides, minimum percentage requirement is there at the RRB NTPC CBT 2 level also. Minimum percentage requirement for qualifying varies with categories. UR- 40% OBC -30% SC- 30% ST- 25%, and also EWS- 40%.

CBAT Pattern for RRB NTPC 2024

Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) as part of the RRB NTPC Exam Pattern 2024 The candidates who have applied for Traffic Assistant and Station Master should have to appear for a Computer-Based Aptitude Test. For the purpose, questions and their corresponding answer options would be given to the candidates in both English and Hindi. Candidates should score a minimum T-score of 42 on different test batteries under the CBAT test. Different test batteries base themselves on five or six individual tests based on the kind of post. Importantly, there is no negative marking in the CBAT.

Applications for document verification shall be received based on 70% of the overall score in the CBT2 and 30% in the CBAT. The minimum T-score requirement has to be met by each candidate belonging to all communities or categories, since no relaxation shall be accepted. Candidates have to pass every test battery of the CBAT for the posts of Station Master and Traffic Assistant. The final merit list would be prepared on these scores, where the weight will be 70% from the marks achieved in the second stage CBT and 30% from the CBAT. This understanding of the RRB NTPC CBAT Pattern is essential for the candidates as it prepares them for those roles.

RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test

Some posts like Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Senior Time Keeper, Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, and Junior Time Keeper include the typing skill test. The qualifying test is to be conducted with the minimum speed of 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi on a computer. Editing tools and spell-check facilities are not allowed. Candidates need to write at least 300 words in English or 250 words in Hindi.

The examination will consist of three parts: one minute's typing practice as a warm-up to get familiar with the keyboard, 30 seconds break, and a 10 minute typing test, which will then be assessed. Candidates can either type in English or Hindi, but if he does not decide on one, he/she will type in English by default. For candidates opting for Hindi, he or she must know how to put up with Kruti Dev or Mangal font.

This is the third process of the RRB NTPC selection process. This typing skill test call-up will be given to all those candidates who qualify in CBT-1 and CBT-2. Eight times the number of vacancies will be called up for the typing test.
